^B00:00:05 >> Yo, yo, yo. Say, say, say. Hello, hello, hello welcome back to another edition of the Write, Right, Rite. Yo, so, what is happening? You see that? It has a mind of its own. Anyway, one of the best parts about writing, one of the coolest things that we do but also one of the hardest things that we do is write first lines. That first line is a doozy, right? I mean, a lot of us work it and rework it. Myself, I rewrite the first line over and over and over again because it got to work in order to get your attention. It's got to lead into that story in the perfect way. You only get one chance to start a thing so it's really difficult. I remember in "As Brave As You" I started a story with the word poop, and I remember being like, "Ah, that's it," right? At first, I thought it all these other ways, but once I wrote poop I was like, "That's how the story starts." Poop, right? Now here's what I want us to do. This week or for this challenge, this prompt, what I want us to do is write a first line of a story. Now of course the complicated part is that means you have to know what the rest of the story is. You have to have an idea of what the story is going to be about. That's the tricky part, but once you have that, I want you to write the first line, and it's got to be perfect. It's got to snap. I've got to be like, "Huh." I've got to be like, "I want to read more." Like give us something juicy. Something that you would want to read. Now if for some reason you just can't come up with a story, here's what I want you to do. I want you to find the book you love the most. A story that you love and rewrite the first line. So, you can go and get "Harry Potter" and how would you begin the first book or go and get "Hunger Games." How would you start it if it were you and you were writing this book? First lines are very important but they're also a lot of fun to fool around with and try to get right. And so, try and do it yourself and let me know how it goes. Cool? I'll see you next time. Oh, and by the way, tell your little brother to stop picking his nose. It's not funny. It's gross. Peace. [ Silence ] ^E00:02:08
