Hello – I'm Carla Hayden, the 14th Librarian of Congress, and I’m here today to say a big thank you to our amazing By the People virtual volunteers. You have given so much of your time and effort to transcribing the Library of Congress’s historical collections. Since the program started in 2018, you have completed over 900,000 transcriptions – what an impact! As you transcribed the diaries of Clara Barton, the letters of Abraham Lincoln, or the memoirs of Rosa Parks, you have truly helped make the Library more useable and accessible for everybody. My sincere thanks and gratitude to the tens of thousands of By the People volunteers, I can’t wait to see what you’ll accomplish next.
